Science in the Early Years

Science in the Early Years is about exploring and investigating the world, and about having fun and learning through playing. In the Early Years science comes under the following areas Understanding of the World, Communication and Language, Physical Development and Expressive Arts and Design. Children comment and ask questions about their familiar world such as the place where they live and the natural world. They talk about things they have observed such as animals, plants and natural objects. They explore why things happen and how things work. They develop an understanding of growth, decay and changes over time. Children look closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change, and relate these to places, objects, materials and living things. Children also learn about their own bodies, exercise and healthy eating.
